FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: February 3, 2007 STORY INN TO HOST VALENTINE WINE
DINNER
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9
Query: What Are the Best Wines for Romance?
“Bronze is the mirror of the form; wine, of the heart.”
Aeschylus, Fragments (525-456 B.C.)
Bards, buffoons, and cunning linguists throughout the ages have attempted
to describe the relationship between love and wine, but inasmuch the
tongue may be employed to both speak and taste, it is perhaps best
deferred to experience. That is the view of Dr. Allen Dale (“Ole”) Olson
a/k/a the "Pontiff of Palate,"
the Story Inn’s counselor at wine: “We intend to put this theory to test
on Friday, February 9, appropriately on the cusp of Valentine’s Day.”
The Story Inn is viewed
by many as the most romantic getaway in the Hoosier State, a bucolic
hamlet where couples propose and wed, dine and cuddle in cottages with hot
tubs but no phones, televisions, clocks or radios. “Venus and Bacchus
exert a powerful gravitational pull here” exhorts improprietor Rick Hofstetter. “It’s a place where a great Pinot can perform its work.”
The Story Inn is Indiana's oldest country inn,
located 13 miles South of Nashville.
Olson and Chefs LeAnn
Arney and Damon Anthony have taken a crack at finding the perfect marriage between
food and wine, creating a
PRIX FIXE MENU
which the Story Inn will be disrobing Friday, February 9 through
Sunday, February 18.
The menu pays homage to one of the world’s greatest lovers whose art of
seduction relied upon this fruit of the sea: Oysters.
Conjunctively, as socio-biologists have long noted, ducks mate for life.
Ergo, the appetizers will feature a duck confit egg roll.
To excite the ardor. vegetarians may select "Aborigine Love
Packages", consisting of Asiagio, ricotta, red peppers, asparagus and
marinara. "We'll even shave your Asiago for you" promises Chef
Damon. The finale is the
chocolate espresso pots de creme, to
melt hearts and inhibitions. The wines to complement the five
courses will be as provocative to the tongue as to the ear.
Says
the Pontiff
wistfully: "I found
wines with very good legs, but they were a bit too young. Ideally, a wine
should have body and class, both please and charm, but most importantly,
be a good, reliable friend. There are quite a few in the Story Inn’s
cellar with whom I have had long-term relationships.”
Conventional wisdom holds
that the appreciation of wines is gender-based, with women preferring
wines that are rich and stable, with age, strength and tempered sweetness.
Men, allegedly, prefer younger, coquettish wines, not too complex, which
tease but ultimately deliver. “I expect there to be differences of opinion
among our guests, ones which we will address at this counseling session”
says the Pontiff.
The Story Inn is now
taking reservations. Seating is limited to 35 persons (since size
does matter). The price: $65. Uncorking will be at 7:00 p.m. Romantic overnight accommodations are also
available.
