ZONING ISSUE SETTLED

Mixed-use Residential Community Slated for Story, Indiana

********************

On April 17, 2007, the Brown County Commissioners approved Dan Bright's application for rezoning of his land near Story, Indiana as a "Planned Unit Development".  This is precisely what his neighbors demanded in his re-zoning application filed in February, 2006.  "I am pleased that I was able to satisfy the expressed desires of the local landowners" says an exuberant Dan Bright, who has been seeking to utilize his 20 acres near the historic town of Story, Indiana, in a manner that is appropriate with the rural character of this tiny community.

In the past year, Dan made many concessions to his neighbors, such as reducing density and agreeing to the more restrictive PUD, rather than general business, zoning.  The PUD zoning will place the project under the continuing supervision of the Brown County Area Plan Commission.

Dan's "Outline Plan" as approved by the Commissioners calls for up to 24 residential units near the historic town of Story, Indiana, together with a small barn for horses, which will be located only 3 miles from the largest horseman's camp in the Midwest.  "I was very careful to fit this plan into the appropriate needs of this community" says Dan, a long-term resident of Brown County, Indiana, and himself an owner of horses.  Dan has owned the property in question for more two decades.

"I love Story, and I will personally make sure that this project meets with the appropriate needs and expectations of this community" says Dan, who intends to market the dwellings primarily to "empty nesters".  "These folks are seeking peace and quiet, and a simple life. I intend to provide that.  This is what brought people here in the first place".

Says Dan: "This land is my land, this land is our land.  We each have an obligation to preserve it.  We must protect it from inappropriate human intervention; we must also protect it from human ignorance and arrogance".

The County Commissioners have directed Dan to submit a "Development Plan" consistent with the Outline Plan.  He promises to create an energy efficient mixed-use residential community architecturally compatible with the history of this community, and in harmony with nature.  Says Dan: "I cannot satisfy everyone, but I promise to make this community proud".
